The Minories exhibition: Ian Hay

By Sally Pudney on 6th February 2017

I started the week with a morning painting in my sunny studio –

–  listening to one of my new Leveret CDs, ‘New Anything’ –

What a nice start to the week!

This afternoon, as I had to go into Colchester anyway, I walked down to The Minories to have a look at Ian Hay’s exhibition Landscape: Town and City. There are scenes of Venice, Amsterdam and London, but the ones I liked best are his views of Colchester.

Some show the very recognisable skyline, seen from a distance. Some show streets of Victorian housing. He is particularly good at foggy mornings, misty evenings, hazy distance.

The exhibitions shows works painted in the last three years, mostly oils but some large charcoal drawings.  It is open Monday to Saturday, until 25th February from 10am – 5pm, and is well worth a look. The Minories is 74 High Street Colchester CO1 1UE, opposite the Castle.

Hope your week has got off to a good start, too 🙂
